Idiot Group - History

           So to begin with, the 6 characters in this story had no clue that they were destined to meet at one point in their life. That point came during their F.Y.J.C studies. All 6 were walking with their own dreams on different roads which crossed over in College days. The main person behind this cross over was the Education system. The people on Education board were trying different ways to ease the Admission procedure by initiating various processes. The one which was finally selected was the Online Admission System in which students filled in their details and selected colleges of their choice. However, the System was still under development and created confusion by allotting Colleges whose names were never been heard before. This resulted our 6 characters getting admission in a new college which was just 1 year old. All 6 stayed nearby and went  to schools in same area, but didn't know each other.

On Aug 13, 2009 the college began. 5 characters went on very first day. The remaining 1 character was still trying his luck to get admission in another better college. On first day it was just an introduction day, were all students and teaching faculty had gathered in the auditorium on top of the college building. The professors addressed the students and wished them luck for better future. 2 names were called to congratulate as they were the one with highest marks in 10th Std. 1 came forward the another was our own character who had not yet joined the college.

First day concluded, some became friends many others still strangers. But everybody fixed their seats in classroom. There were 4 rows equally divided between boys and girls.

On 3rd Day, our last character May arrived in college. By then others students were familiar to each other. May entered the class before first lecture and sat on 2nd last bench in boys row which was empty. Few minutes later 2 students came and asked him to move to last bench as they had already selected that seat. he moved one seat back, but another student came and May had no place in 2 rows allotted for boys, so he sat on second last bench in girls row. For May, being a student from convent he was comfortable with sitting next to girls. But the girls were not, they were staring at him after regular intervals as if he is going to misbehave with them. Professor entered the classroom, she saw May sitting behind alone in girls row. She asked boys to accommodate him in 2 rows. Our another character Divs took initiative and allowed him to sit next to him and Ram (Our 3rd character)

After first lecture, May & Divs had very formal chat, in which Divs was astonished with marks scored by May in 10th which were enough to get him admission in Science faculty. He kept on confirming whether May had mistaken Commerce word in Marathi for Science.  The nickname Doctor given to May was Divs invention. He believed May should have become a Doctor.

Ram too became friends with May & Divs. Meanwhile, other characters too had established their friendships with students sitting next to them. Pro & Omi were together, whereas Poo was in middle of girls group.

All 6 would have never imagined of creating a group which will last for long.

Everyone was enjoying college life as there were no exams in first half, first unit test was cancelled because the college opened late in mid-August. Everyone was happy and the Professors were friendly with students. So directly first semester was conducted in Oct. The College had its own system of distributing corrected answer sheets to respective students so that they can analyse and rectify their mistakes. Subject by Subject they started getting answer sheets, May was very fond of keeping scores and paper cuttings of cricket, like a statistician. So he started recording marks of few expected toppers as per him. The list included marks of May, Divs, Pro, Poo, Nit. The result was as per May's expectation. May topped the chart by huge margin clearly outperforming every student in class followed by Pro remotely in 2nd place. May, Divs & Pro became friends.

Everything was going well for them as well as for others. The atmosphere in class was friendly and there were no rivalry among any. But suddenly One Professor who use to teach two subjects left the college and new madam replaced his post. The new madam, Sup, was good in nature, however her teaching techniques were odd. She used to give marks based on quantity and not on quality, which was not correct. She requested students to write many points in answer sheets, even if they are not relevant to questions asked, so that there is something in writing to allot marks. All students except our 6 characters were happy with her style of teaching. This was another reason which brought our idiots together. They were of the opinion that college was not just for scoring marks but to gain some knowledge and enjoy life (lol 🤣). One student who blindly followed her steps was Sil, who became her loyal student. She use to be hyper active during her Lectures, answering each and every questions irrespective of answer being correct or not. Sup Madam too cherished her. Preparations began for 2nd Unit test to be held in Jan 2010. Exams concluded followed by sharing of answer sheets. This time Divs too assisted May in his record keeping, which granted him room to add more students to his list. First Paper was distributed, Poo topped it with Pro, Divs & Nit sharing 2nd spot, Adi 3rd. After 2nd paper, Pro grabbed 1st spot from Poo, May was at bottom of his list, finding himself in stiff position. The Students whom he had beaten by huge margin in 1st Semester were giving him run for his money. He took everyone lightly and it backfired on him. Luckily, there were 2 subjects (Eng & BK) that helped him save some pride. For everyone's surprise Pro had topped the exam denying May 1st place narrowly by 4 marks. Nit was 3rd, Divs 4th, Poo 5th. The huge turnaround in rankings was due to the New Madam-Sup. Many students wrote rubbish in her papers and got almost full marks for it. Thus adding up their aggregate marks.

The new Madam had joined recently and therefore didn't have far reaching impact on the results. However, it was the beginning of Sup-Sil Era. She was loyally following Madams preaching and scored almost full marks in her subjects. Even convinced her friends to do so.

Our 6 idiots were still unaware of the storm which had started to rise up to surface before the Finals. They were not yet united. Finals began in Mar 2010. Everyone except our 6 Idiots and few others here & there, followed new madams protocol, whereas our idiots stick to their basics. After completion of Finals there was a small vacation before extra lectures for 12th Std.

During vacation Divs and Poo joined a coaching class for 12th. Sil too joined the same class. In there class, weekly test would be conducted to test students performance and understanding of subject. Sil continued the path laid down by her idol madam. Divs and Poo used to score less and were mocked  in the class. Divs was very angry on Sil and decided to take revenge, but had no idea how to do it. Because of vacation, the answer sheets were not distributed and the aggregate results was to be declared on 29th April, 2010 in college. All friends contacted each other and decided to get in together. They gathered outside college on result day and started predicting the results of finals. They expected it to be top 3 finish by there unformed group with May & Pro having tough fight for first place and Divs may seal the 3rd place. Other students had already arrived in class. Our Idiots entered the college building and were shocked to see the result displayed. The effects of Sup Madams' teaching had impacted the whole class, only May had narrowly escaped the catastrophe.

To everyone's surprise Sil, Sup's Loyal devotee had secured the 2nd place by pushing Pro down the order to 3rd place. While Divs was pushed even further by madam's other followers. May somehow managed to withstand the casualty. Divs was totally outraged by Sil's results. Because of the result Divs & Poo became topic of gossip in their coaching classes among others. Sil started exhibiting her marks & rank in class. She even started behaving like scholar & studious girl.

Now it was high time, something had to be done to stop Sil. Divs decided to create a group. His idea was to unite those students who were against Sup madam's teaching style. After result day, Divs started planning for revenge in his brain. Only one person had survived Sil's attack, it was May and thus May had to be in his team. May & Sil alliance would have been disastrous for Divs. However, even May hated Sil, so Divs was confident that May won't team up with Sil. Till now only person to outperform May was Pro, so he was the 2nd most important person Divs wanted in his team. By having only male dominated team to defeat an opponent of opposite gender would have been difficult for Divs, thus it lead to addition of Poo, the lone Female member who was smart among the girls who didn't follow madam's technique of teaching.

So Divs decided to make a team of 4 people. Divs had informed Poo in class itself during vacations. College reopened after vacation on 14th June 2010. All friends met in class. Divs revealed his plans to May about a team to overcome Sil and others. Working as a team, it will help all the team members to improve their performance. May was convinced & immediately agreed to join. Then Divs met Pro during recess time to inform about group formation. Pro agreed to join the group, but he placed one condition, that Omi should also be included in the team. Pro's justification to it was that Omi too hated Sil and he felt that Omi should also be benefited from the group. Divs after thinking for sometime agreed with Pro's offer. So it became 5 member team. However, Omi's addition to the group without consulting May lead to negotiations between May & Divs, which resulted into May admitting Ram too,  making it 6 member group with a new order "no more further direct additions without everyone's permission". They named the group Idiot Group, it was derived from the film 3 idiots which was released few months early and was hit among teenagers.

To maintain Respect, Discipline and harmony between members everyone decided to clarify everybody's roll in the group by giving all members some status. May was elected as President as he was the lone survivor at the Top, Pro became Vice-President as he lost very narrowly and was only one to defeat May, Divs announced himself as Secretary, as he was the architect of Group, also one to look after the working and other group related activities. Rest others were termed as Members and were to be treated equally. June 14th, 2010 was decided as incorporation date. Being Commerce students, they conducted first AGM immediately on bench behind a political party office next to a bridge adjacent to College gate. They declared that bench as their headquarters.

In July 2010, they didn't had any work to do. So everything was normal. As Aug commenced, First Unit test of Std 12th were held. All idiots helped each other in studies, while Sil and some others tried to become good in eyes of other professors to easily score good marks without any hard work. It is still not known whether Sil came to know about the real purpose of Idiot Group, she too created an unnamed girls group consisting of herself Sita, SonG, SwatK. As some boys were attracted towards Sil's team members, they were unknowingly pulled into Sil's team. There were other groups too in class purely based on friendship and were initially not in the race of toppers.

Exams finished and college reopened. Sup Madam was removed from college (reasons not known) and another madam Laks took over her job. However, Sup madam didn't leave the college in good faith, she checked the entire answer sheets of both her subjects before leaving.

After exams, answer sheets were distributed one-by-one. Idiot group kept record of each and every opponent team members. First paper shared was again OC in which Pro topped, Poo, Divs, Nit were tied on 2nd place, Sil 5th,  May was out of top 5, followed by Ram, SonG, Omi. In the end, it was May & Pro who had regained the top 2 spot with 160 & 153 marks respectively. But Sil was still there in Top 3 with 146 marks (Credits to Sup Madam), Poo came close to displace Sil but missed by 2 marks and remained 4th with 144 marks. Sil somehow managed to bear the attack from newly formed Idiot group.

Now Sil was in a state of complete shock as her deity Madam had been removed and the new madam was more friendly with the Idiot Group. So she started acquiring new resources for her stumbled team as she knew that her team would be exposed to real life circumstance in absence of Sup Madam. She needed someone who can match the quality Idiot group comprised of and not one who followed Sup's strategy. Sil dragged some groups into this battle which were neutral till first unit test. She joined hands with Great Mates (Prash & Sang), Nits, 3 amigos (JayK, Prath, MayC)

Sil even tried to collaborate with Adi, but he refused to join and expressed his wish to contest independently. Another cunning act tried by Sil was to drag Dips in her group, so that the main person behind Idiot group can be controlled. But this stunt too failed as Dips was not fast enough too match the speed & intensity of battle going on.

Now it was time for Semester examination, Idiots began with their studies helping each other. While Sil kept on trying to unite the whole class against Idiot group. May didn't wanted to experience the roller-coaster ride like the last 2 exams , were until very end it was unclear who will top. So he took semester seriously as it was big exams before the finals. Exams were completed by Oct 2010 followed by Diwali vacation.

After Vacation, everyone was eager to know the outcome of Semester battle as many groups were involved in it. First paper was distributed, it was again OC. However, this May topped the list, followed by Pro & Sil. One after another all papers were shared and distributed. May made his intentions clear by defending his first place, finishing on top from very start to end, a complete dominance after very long time since first college exams. Pro too defended his 2nd spot. Sil suffered her first blow since Apr 2010. She missed out 3rd place and had to settle with 5th Spot. However, Poo could not capitalize Sil's decline as she could only manage 4th place finish. It was Sil new allied friend Prash from Great Mate, who secured 3rd place and denied Idiot group their first Clean Sweep at top. For Idiot group the battle was still on as Sil's team now had likes of Prash, Nit, etc. who were capable creating of upsets.

Before the Finals there was only one warm-up test called Prelims, which were to be held in Jan 2011 before Final exam. All the groups in class kicked off their study campaign again. Even though May was in Idiot Group, he had some other plans too. He had an observation, that other students in class use to tick May's marks as benchmark for comparison and tried to achieve that mark, achieving it meant they had attained their dreams & goals, They didn't study hard to realize the goals set by themselves but the goals set by May, clearly showing their wrong mindsets. So he decided to use it for his advantage and do a big gamble. May planned to perform below par in upcoming Prelims so the students outdo him and have impression that they have finally achieved their target. Also the Prelims marks did not have any effect on Final results. It was very risky stunt, which may have had disastrous outcome like May might have carried his below par performance in finals. For making it successful, May didn't disclose his idea to anyone not even to  the Idiot group members.

Everybody in class including all professors still believed that May would top in the finals, but recent performance by Pro, Sil, Prash, Adi, Nit and few others meant that it was going to be uphill task for May. The new Madam, Laks too made Studying easy for other students by personally clearing their doubts and helping them with straightforward ways to study. She instantly became hit among the students.

Prelims were held in Jan '10. All students gave their best shot at last exams in their own college. May executed his plan. As this exams marks were not to be considered anywhere, not all professors were interested with checking and distributing the answer sheets. Some papers were not distributed and reason for its non-distribution was told to students that the Prelims were conducted as a warm up for students. Still some answer sheets were distributed. BK, Eng, Mar & Eco were the only papers of which answer sheets were shared with students. BK was home-pitch for May, he never lost his top place in that subject. While other subjects top spot kept on changing hands. Pro topped rest other subjects in Prelims. Aggregate result out of shared answer sheet showed standings as follows

Sil was back in Top 3, whereas Top 5 included on 2 Idiot members, there worst performance since incorporation. Out of 6 Idiots, only May, Pro & Poo were among ranks. Divs had lost his form to love, he was tangled in Dips love. Ram & Omi were never among ranks. Sil had given up Madam's study approach and started studying seriously. This created another challenge for Idiot group. May even after trying his master-plan finished 2nd. College had organized a farewell for Students. All enjoyed the last day at college keeping aside their rivalries by clicking and posing together for photos.

The finals were conducted by the State exam board, which meant exam centers were allotted to students across city. The Idiots were sprinkled around, May, Adi, JayK were in same center, Pro & Nits were together, Divs & Ram had same center, Omi & Poo were with Mr.bean and others. Exams commenced in Feb, everybody was trying to give his best shot for one last time. On last day, after exam all Idiots gathered together besides Lake. They decided to party together at Omi's house. Idiots had fun on that day. There was a big vacation before results. There was very little contact between the Idiot group members.

Results were to be declared in Jun 2011. Dates were declared, May's relatives had some internal contacts in board, which gave him advantage of checking his result one day before Actual date. However, he didn't had other students admit card number, Thus he was helpless as he could not conclude whether he had scored enough marks or his Great Gamble plan had backfired.

On result day, Pro who was one step ahead of May, had already collected everyone's admit card number, he checked the results online and created a list. It was topped by none other than May with 76%, the biggest upset was 2nd Place runners-up, It was grabbed by Poo, outperforming Pro, Sil, Prash. Pro had to settle with 3rd place and it was dream finish for Idiot group, a complete sweep at the rankings for 1st time since its inception. The further rankings were Sil 4th, Prash 5th, etc. Ram & Omi had performed fairly, however, Divs result was disappointing with he being placed outside top 10.

Next day everyone was invited to college to collect their Final mark sheet. All Idiots gathered outside college and congratulated each other. As they entered college, they were shocked to check the Notice Board which displayed outcome of Final exams. It showed May was the Topper, followed by Poo. But 3rd place was claimed by someone else. It was not Pro, but Adi who had displaced Pro by 2 marks. A big heart break for the Idiots. For all this years and exams, Idiot group were every time denied Top 3 finish as at least single Non-Idiot person would always be there in Top 3. However, on a positive note the Top place was always dominated by an Idiot group Member, such a dominance at the Top.

The Group's Tag line "Sil chi Maruya" was changed on last day to "Only Professionals" as earlier tagline had been accomplished. Every Idiot Member had decided to take up Professional courses and planned to set up a meeting after 10 years between Idiot group & Sil and others. (similar to movie 3 idiots)

So did they accomplish their new dream . . .
